Travelling through Communities & People

Today at the coworking space, I met Jesse, who’s originally from Guam and currently lives in Japan. He’s the first person I’ve ever met in person from Guam, which makes sense considering it’s a small island nation—but still, it’s so cool. I’d only ever heard about Guam from a YouTube video by Kold.

First off, Jesse exudes vibrant positive energy and genuinely believes in people. He’s always thinking the best of others and is incredibly engaging in conversation. He shared that he’s into running and, even though he’s only been in Bangkok for a week, he’s already found several running communities and joined many digital nomad events. I can relate to that in a way, and he mentioned that he does extensive research beforehand about the places he visits, particularly focusing on the communities there. He finds a lot of these events and people through Instagram, which has made me reconsider getting an account. Maybe I could use it like I do with Facebook—just to look for events. Either way, knowing which events to attend beforehand and then meeting people usually leads to the best recommendations for further activities and connections. The key is to start somewhere. 🙂

P.S.: Also, Meetup.com is a great way to find and connect with people in almost every major city of the world. I used it to find board game nights in New York, Bachata Social Dance Parties in México city and join digital nomad coworking in both Bangkok and Lisbon. And met and keep on meeting beautiful and kind people along the way. Highly recommended!
