Today on the program was visiting the Tokyo Skytree. I like to see first the big picture, before then diving into all the details. Both in life and learning.
The building stands 634m tall with visitor decks at 350. and 450m. I got the double ticket to be able to visit both. Only thing: I can be quite afraid of heights, especially when looking down. So that was a good challenge to tackle to face my fears.
Going up with the elevator had it’s first surprise. Something that could be automated was still explained by a person. We were greeted, they explained the different levels and that the elevator had the autumn theme. There were for elevators and each had it’s own theme. Points for good storytelling Japan hehe. So going up is this massive area, similar to being on top of the Olympic tower in Munich. Quite a view even at 350m and the city just keeps on extending so far around – it looks like Tokyo goes on forever into all directions wherever one looks. I was hoping to also see Mount Fuji(-san), but couldn’t see it from there. A little research shows that it’s possible when it’s a very clear day. Another similarity to Germany with the alps being visible from the top of the city on clear days. It’s beautiful!
Getting up to 450m had another hidden surprise with a gallery. At first I though: probably another one of those boring modern art galleries that nobody understands, or that only has pictures of naked women and call it modern art. But hey: this time it was something way more exciting. It was featuring a gallery of Pokémon. So apparently Pokémon did a collaboration with Skytree and they were showing all the artwork from it. Now that’s the type of museum that the inner child in me likes hehe. So quite fun to look at.
Going down to 350m then now we come to the part where the fears of heigh become real. You have to now that I’m quite afraid of heights. And yes, I did go on some climbing tours with my brother, but the only way I could do those it to not look down. To always look up. Kind of like sometimes in life. It’s needed to look up and move on.
On the level there is a glas see-through place where one can look down and see the ground. There were some smaller kids on it, but no bigger adult like me. So I tried the first steps.
After not hearing any shattering sound I proceed to go even more to the center. If I were to fall there are always the steel things to latch onto. That also goes well, puh.
Quick photo again, and then off I move from it. Enough seeking discomfort (#seekingDiscomfort Yes Theory Style) for today. That a wrap for today.
